We understand that our bodies are made of matter, because our environment consists of matter, but what about consciousness?
Is consciousness caused by processes in matter, or is consciousness inherent in the universe?
If the universe is conscious, then it is natural that I as a human being am conscious: If so, I am aware of the universe, and the universe is aware of me.
Is consciousness fundamental? Is the consciousness of humankind and the consciousness of the universe one and the same?
“I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness. We cannot get behind consciousness. Everything that we talk about, everything that we regard as existing, postulates consciousness.” Max Planck
“As a man who has devoted his whole life to the most clear headed science, to the study of matter, I can tell you as a result of my research about atoms this much: There is no matter as such. All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particle of an atom to vibration and holds this most minute solar system of the atom together. We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter.” Max Planck
“Everything we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real.” Niels Bohr
“Useful as it is under everyday circumstances to say that the world exists ‘out there’ independent of us, that view can no longer be upheld.” John Wheeler
“Reality only exists in the mind of the observer. There is no matter.” Thomas Campbell
“It is not matter that creates an illusion of consciousness, but consciousness that creates an illusion of matter.” Bernard Haisch
“You have been seeking to change the world outside yourselves, but there is NO outside! All that you see ‘out there’ you have projected from within yourselves, which is why to be loving, changes the world that you perceive. When your perception of the ‘outside’ world changes from fearful anxiety and the stress that that perception offers you, you will find yourselves increasingly at peace and consequently able to see the Light in others instead of perceiving them as threats to your existence.“ John Smallman
“There is no outside world. There only exists the world within. The Kingdom of God is within you. And your entire world and your entire life is within you. For all of it is but, literally, a figment of your imagination, albeit the imagination that is the power of God. So your world literally is whatever you imagine. ” Brent Haskell
“The dawn of this new Quantum Age presents you with the radical new paradigm – that you are not your body or your situation, but instead are pure energy, pure consciousness..” Cynthia Sue Larson
